SHETLAND WAR RUINS PROJECT
Watercolour, charcoal, conte crayon and pencil on glassine paper
59 x 84cm approx.
Continuing exploring Romantic influences in response to strange and sinister war ruins. Choice of translucent paper, its transparency and softness, and my soft delicate approach, with soft pastel colours, in strange contrast with harsh and eerie subject matter. In first image here in particular, sense of a dark portal ‘beyond’. Translucency and suspending the drawing slightly away from the wall seemed to add to unstable, fragile feeling.
