Ni Liv

Ni Liv (Nine Lives)

1957, 1h 50m. Director Arne Skouen.

Screening at Scalloway Hall, 19.30. Part of Screenplay, Shetland’s annual film festival.

The story of Jan Baalsrud, a member of the Norwegian resistance pursued by Nazis across mountainous Norway to the safety of neutral Sweden in March 1943. He endures fear, attack, nature’s harshness and even his own hallucinations whilst fighting through the very beautiful but cruel landscape. A very special experience to see this film in Scalloway, the base of the Shetland Bus operations which made dangerous crossings to and from Nazi occupied Norway, transporting agents, refugees and weapons and often under the cover of heavy seas.
