Bressay Artists Exhibition - This July
This July, it’s great to be exhibiting work at Speldiburn Cafe, Bressay along side lovely pieces by other artists. All artists are from Bressay, and on show is a varied selection of paintings and drawings.
In my recent work, I’ve become interested in aspects of coastal change, and have chosen pencil drawings of some of Shetland’s sea stacks for this exhibition, completed this summer. Though to us sea stacks appear immovable, miraculously withstanding constant pummelling from wind and water, they are undergoing constant change. Over spans of deep geological time, the stack is just one phase of a long process which will eventually lead to disappearance. The intricate ridges and shapes in these rocks, which I trace in detail whilst drawing, are signs of continuous natural processes of abrasion, attrition and wave energy.
Works on show:
1. ‘Hermaness Sea Stack Sketch I’ , graphite pencil on paper, 21 x 14.8cm (unframed)
2. ‘Sumburgh Sea Stack I’, graphite pencil on paper, 21 x 14.8cm (unframed)
3. ‘Hermaness Sea Stack II’, graphite pencil on paper, 21 x 14.8cm (unframed)
4. ‘Lighthouse Loom Warp’, graphite pencil on 100% cotton paper, 58 x 96cm (framed)
