Evenings of colour!
Here are a few images from our ‘Colour and Atmospheric Perspective’ Sessions!
The evenings were all about increasing our confidence with colour, and taking our colours in new expressive directions.
To warm up on the first night, we used watercolour with some basic colour techniques to investigate primaries. This traditional media is great for working quickly and produces lovely translucent washes of colour that can be layered - but this also meant we had to also work quite carefully, and keep organised!
We looked at examples of artists who reduced their palettes to only primaries to create powerful images with different meanings and emotional effects, before trying a few expressive compositions ourselves.
We then moved on to secondary colours. Mixing our colours from the primaries focused the eye to the nuances of hue and colour bias - whether the supposed secondary colour in-fact leant towards one of the primaries. (This was critical for the next stage, creating neutrals).
We also learnt about a few ways colour has historically been organised, the worlds of art and science meeting to try and define colour and its endless variation!
In Week 2, we further explored colour contrast, context and value to create effects of depth.
Thank you to everyone who came along.
