Drawing Activities
Very many thanks to everyone who came along to Drawing Activities this September / October, part of the Mind Your Head Shetland’s Wellness Activity Programme.
Over three weeks, we tried many varied techniques and approaches to drawing, all to build our confidence and to see drawing as an activity where the process is just as important (if not more) than finished outcomes.
In Week 1, we experimented with mark making, making our drawings as free flowing as possible, and also enjoyed drawing as time set aside to relax through concentration. In Week 2, we looked at drawing from observation, learning about planning a drawing on the page and awareness of shape and line in order to record what we observe in the world around (which is in itself a very rewarding activity). In the final week, we used various techniques and ‘games’ to draw from our imaginations, inspired by artists including Alexander Cozens, Victor Hugo and the Surrealists. Activities included Decalcomania, Frottage, Exquisite Corpse and collage.
Many thanks to all at Mind Your Head Shetland - it was a great experience and lots of fun to see so much variation in attendees work!
