Another World drawings - featured in ‘Immersion’

‘Another World (study)’

2024, pencil crayon, 297 x 210 (unframed), 453 x 364mm (framed)

‘Immersion’ is showing at the Old Haa Museum, Yell, Shetland, until 22nd September.

As well as working directly from nature, I’m also interested in today’s complex visual world where images both reveal more and create further distance between us and direct experience of nature. These drawings were inspired by being online and virtually walking around a garden/nature park, a totally constructed environment (and a place I’ve never been to). Irregularities in the 3D representation where things melt and fragment, especially in areas of nature, lift the curtain on the illusion of reality. But these anomalies also strangely give a sense of wilderness, and something unknowable, which the imagination can project into.
