Culture Collective

Thank you Shetland Arts for an exciting upcoming project!

I can’t wait to begin work on ‘Gathering Strings’ - my contribution to Culture Collective, a new programme of activities and projects devised and delivered by creative practitioners across Shetland.

Bringing together partners from the northern and western islands, Culture Collective will explore ways of working together, supporting artists and embedding the arts within community recovery from the effects of Covid-19. All the projects aim to provide opportunities for people to reconnect with other people after periods of isolation and restriction as a result of Covid-19 in relaxed, fun and creative ways.

- Shetland Arts

Gathering Strings will be an intergenerational project between history societies and primary school-aged children taking place across Shetland. Through this project, I aim to begin conversations about memory, island existence and connectivity, and ways in which 20th century change has affected rural life through industry and infrastructure. An initial stage of informal conversations to share memories (working with history societies and their members) will then shape later drawing workshops with local children.

Watch this space for more as the project develops!

Culture Collective is a national programme supported by Creative Scotland exploring ways of working together, supporting artists and embedding the arts within community recovery from the effects of Covid-19. Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides are working together as an ‘island group’ to share their experience and contribute to their communities.
