Da Voar Draw - Day 3

For Day 3 of Da Voar Draw, we are taking a closer look at Limpets!

They might not be the first thing we think of when we consider spring! Firmly fixed to rocks near the sea and in rock-pools, they seem not to move or undergo any change at all. But surprisingly, once the tide comes in and they’re submerged, they move over the rocks. They also always return to the same place, following the trail they left, back to their ‘home scar’.

In Spring, action and change is visible everywhere, as a result of astronomical cycles. But every day, there are many periodical changes that happen almost unnoticed as part of nature’s patterns, often on very small scales. The limpet might be very unassuming and not travel very far, but it is certainly just as connected to celestial rhythms!

If you live inland, you can simply work from the photograph here for today’s activity. But if you live by the sea, why not take a shoreline walk today and look for limpet shells! You’ll be amazing by the various patterns and marks you find.

As always, don’t forget to share your work using #DaVoarDraw, or post in the event page on Facebook. It’s always great to see your creativity and start conversations!
