Da Voar Draw - Day 6

For Day 6 of Da Voar Draw, we are focusing on Flowers!

In spring it’s a joy to see flowers appear, bringing splashes of colour after the long days of winter. Here in Shetland, the delicate petals of spring flowers seem even more miraculous, often having to brave snow and hail well into May!

To us, flowers may seem to exist for pure decoration, beautiful for beauty’s sake, but of course in nature they are functional. They also are not so spontaneously formed as we might think but have orderly and geometrical structures and patterns.

Today’s drawings will further develop our exploration of shape by looking closely at just a few of these underlying geometrical patterns of design. If you look in your environment for flowers, you’re sure to find even more geometry and ordered patterns, hidden behind plants’ frivolous-seeming blooms!

And remember, if you wish to share what you discover, use #DaVoarDraw, or post in the event page or comments below each post on Facebook. It’s great to see what can be found (and drawn) in our local environments!
